Raven Tower was once home to an eccentric Houston businessman, R.W. Walker, in the 70s, who built a penthouse above his metal shop warehouse. gin design group designed the square-shaped VIP bar and lounge, paying homage to the decade by installing wooden parquet tiles, which were popular during the era. The two biggest statement pieces are an upright Kawai piano and a custom-made shuffleboard table crafted by Cory Wagner, which can double as a dining table for 20. Stephen Kenn designed plush green chairs covered in repurposed World War II military fabric for the space, and the cocktail tables can be raised or lowered depending on whether guests are enjoying a meal or just having drinks. The walls showcase work from local artists that changes on a regular basis. Old radios unearthed in Walker’s warehouse were transformed into an art installation at the top of the stairs. The radio design was also taken into the bathrooms, where swirls of paint representing radio waves adorn the front doors.
